memorial church in san francisco. year after year they do it, it's wonderful. that's where christie smith joins us live with a look at all that work to make sure no one goes hungry this holiday. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. happy thanksgiving. you know, the timing is perfect because the volunteers just walked in within the last minute or two. before this the room was basically empty except for some vegetables and some food that was set up this morning. but i want to step aside so you can see them all set up. some of these folks have been coming here year after year after year. they come to the same exact spot to cut meat. what's happening is that the food was actually prepared before. these are cooked hams, cooked turkeys. they're going to carve them up and be serving them to the clients here at glide memorial church sometime around 9:00 this morning. first they're going to have a breakfast. but here with me this morning is jean cooper. good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: how do you put this on? you're going to be serving at least 5,000 people. >> well, w

regarding who he plans to start as quarterback. alex smith should be medically cleared to play, but he didn't want to announce who will start. it doesn't do the team or organization do any good to let everybody know his plan. he said reporting this week that he had told smith that he would get the start were not true. >> raiders running back darren mcfadden will miss the third straight game. seymore will miss the game in cincinnati where the raiders will try to snap their three-game losing streak. san jose state is on track for the first bowl appearance since 2006. he could end up from the hawaii bowl to the military bowl. they are going for the first 10-win season since 1987 tonight against louisiana tech. kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. the game will be televised on espn 2. meanwhile how other top 25 teams play will determine where they end up. today they will be in the north and again the ucla will play next week in the championship game. if they do that, they can get a trip to the rose bowl. the hotline said other options are alamo, fiesta, sun, or holiday bowls. yesterday was not just black fr

out to hank smith, chief investment officer. hank, good more thning. are you surprised there is no more optimism in futures? >> no, not really. because here in the united states, it's all about the fiscal cliff and very interesting last week as congress was on recess on vacation, the markets were you up. you now that congress is back in seg, there's a lot of jitteriness and i think you'll continue to see this until there is a resolution at least until we see that the fiscal cliff is being averted, either with a bridge or something more comprehensive and permanent, which is highly doubtful in a lame duck congress. >> for example the durable goods orders, we've seen a fall off in investment. is that owed to this uncertainty over the fiscal cliff? >> absolutely. capital spending is on strike here in the united states and has been for a while. but the good news is 2013 should be the year that certainty replaces uncertainty. unleashing a lot of pept up demand. so we can make the case that we'll see an acceleration of gdp growth with this unleashing of pent up demand in 2013.
